Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - DrewClue - 08-14-2026 https://www.gematsu.com/2026/08/netflix-to-close-night-school-studios-moonloot-games Honestly, I'm very disappointed but not surprised. Netflix shouldn't have been buying gaming studios to begin with, and I really loved all three of the Night School Studios games I played, hopefully they can reform or join another studio or something. RE: Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - kamineko - 08-15-2026 I don't know what people were expecting to happen after they have been bought by Netflix. Sadly, this was bound to happen. RE: Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - Mosey - 08-22-2026 I agree. I'm devastated for the team, but the writing was on the wall the second they sold to Netflix. But, as always, people are more important than company names. So, I hope they can rebound. And I look forward to seeing what the creatives do next. RE: Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - Joshua AGH - 08-23-2026 This has gotten out of hand. Team firings and game shutdowns are as expected as game releases. We are flipping coins on what happens. I have no faith in anything industry related anymore. Until I see it, I don’t believe it. I feel so bad for the teams who emotionally invest in something. No wonder how video games are mostly soulless. They are being developed by mercenaries (not their fault really) and funded by conmen. RE: Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - rtrooney - 08-24-2026 It's everywhere! Granted, this is a game-centric venue, but it's foolish to think this is only happening to game developers. Witness David Ellison, owner of media compamy Skydance, who happens to be the son of one of the world's richest men, Larry Ellison, who buys Paramount, and thus CBS. And then decides to get rid of people at 60 Minutes who don't share his right-wing editorial philosophy. Which tradgedy should be more concerned with? RE: Oxenfree Dev Night School Studios Shut Down - kamineko - 08-24-2026 At least in case of game industry it's all driven by money and is a part of the transformation of big game companies from creators into replicators. Creating a new game bears the risk of its commercial failure. How to get rid of this risk? Obviously, make someone else take it. Let indie developers make new games and if they are successful buy them, seize their IP, then get rid of them. Soon we will see big game companies completely shutting down their game development departments and concentrating entirely on replication of games that they acquired from indie developers they have bought and shut down. As for David Ellison buying Paramount or Jeff Bezos buying The Washington Post, I'd say these are distant early warnings of a much grimmer process - the renaissance of neo-fascism, but this is a game site, so I am not going there. |
