Hey, all! I've been working on an enormous Dagger of Amon Ra video retrospective for almost a year, now. Finally, it's almost ready for release in October, and it's three and half hours long! I'm really excited about this one, and I think fans of the game are going to be really surprised by the things I uncovered.

For instance, there's a notebook that appears when you interrogate people. You need to select a topic, and Laura will ask about it. As the game goes on, you'll discover more things and get more notebook entries.

Frustratingly, it's easy to lock yourself out of certain topics.

Dr. Myklos: You can only get her name in the notebook if you ask Lo Fat about the museum in Act I. If you get to the museum without doing this, too bad! You can't ask anyone about her, ever.

Rameses Najeer: You can only get Najeer's name in the notebook by asking Ziggy about Egyptology in the speakeasy in Act I.

Countess Waldorf-Carlton: You can get the Countess's name by either talking to the flapper in the speakeasy, or asking Steve about Dr. Carrington at the docks in Act I. (He explains the Countess picked up Carrington in a taxi.) Wait until Act II, at the party? Too bad! Even if the Countess directly introduces herself and tells you her name, it won't appear in the notebook, and you can never ask anybody about her.

If you've got any burning Dagger of Amon Ra questions, let me know and I'll try to answer.

Wouldn't be an Adventure Game forum without the Guess the game from the scene game.

Guess the game, the correct answer gets to post the next scene.

For those of you who collect games, what do you collect,?

I've noticed lately more and more people that have digital game collections. I do too, but my "real" collection, to me, is my physical game collection. I especially like to collect physical adventure games, ranging from early text adventures to modern classics (when they actually get physical releases and I can find them). I have lots of other stuff too though - I like games of all sorts, especially old ones.

What about you?

While the adventure game genre has been absolutely bonkers (in a good way) in 2025, i feel like the rest of the gaming industry is crumbling. Compared to previous years, 2025 has been very light. Even the highly anticipated games like Borderlands 4 have had pretty forgettable starts.

I've played Atomfall, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, The Alters, Oblivion Remaster, AC Shadows, Indy the Great Circle,  Star Wars Outlaws, Alone in the Dark, Dune: Awakening  and a few that I forgot about or quit.

I view The Great Circle more of an adventure game with action elements so I'll omit that. I enjoyed Oblivion but got burnt out once the nostalgia wore off. KCD2 was a blast for a bit but I got derailed and never found the urge to finish. Same with the Alters. My favorite so far is Atomfall.
I thoroughly enjoyed the choose your own adventure style FPS. Heavy in story and it wasn't too difficult. Very short for an FPS so it allows the time to go back and try other paths. It felt like Fallout with more ending options.

What about you all?

Welcome to the Adventure Game Hotspot forums.

Adventure games have always been about more than solving puzzles, they’ve been about community. From trading walkthrough tips found in the backs of magazines to debates about what an adventure game actually is, genre fans love to share ideas, theories, and laughs. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Adventure Game Hotspot forums—a dedicated space where fans, developers and newcomers can come
together and discuss the genre we love.

Jack and I have always planned to have a forum section at AGH. It’s in our blood. We go all the way back to being moderators at GameBoomers. Of course, Jack oversaw the ever-popular Adventure Gamers forums (RIP) for many years, a place where I created
the longest running thread in its history (The Adventure Game Scene….uh….Game). Heck, Jack even banned a youthful me from AG back in the day, which we now get a giggle over. But you all won’t make us ban you, will you? WILL YOU? Didn’t think so, because we are all here to celebrate adventure games.

We have several sub-forums for all your different interests, but wherever you spend your time, these are more than just message boards. They’re a hub for conversation, discovery, and connection. Whether you’re here to find a new game to play, debate the ending of LeChuck’s Revenge, or simply geek out about other games or other stuff, we share your passion.

For our forum guidelines, please refer to Jack’s list of do’s and don’ts and other frequently asked questionsLet’s make the Adventure Game Hotspot forums the ultimate destination for puzzle solvers, storytellers, and dreamers everywhere.

Once again, WELCOME!!! Heart Heart Heart

You know we're going to debate this question 6,342 times anyway, so let's rip off the Band-Aid right away.

What IS an adventure game to you personally, what isn't, and why?

There are NO wrong answers, only silly ones personal interpretation!

(P.S. Obviously Portal is off-limits to naysayers. It's totally an adventure game, just a very unique one.  Big Grin  )
