RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Estória - 03-28-2026 Baron got it! It's one of my least favorite games of all times. I remember looking forward to it, because the ads made it look really cool, but it turned out to be an extremely cheesy slog fest. RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Beau - 03-28-2026 I have a soft spot for terrible FMV games. I tried to play Urban Runner once but the copy I had kept crashing RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Estória - 03-29-2026 It was worth at least one playthrough, so if you can get a working copy give it another try, but ultimately it was disappointing. The pattern was: •make a quick decision, die, retry, die, retry, almost get it but die, retry, get it •get rewarded with a short video clip •make a quick decision, die, retry, die, retry, almost get it but die, retry, get it •get rewarded with a short video clip •repeat until the convoluted, campy story finished RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - srnickolas - 03-29-2026 (03-29-2026, 02:39 AM)Estória Wrote: It was worth at least one playthrough, so if you can get a working copy give it another try, but ultimately it was disappointing. I never played Urban Runner though I love Coctel Vision adventures. Apparently this game was such a big failure commercially, that after its release the company decided to focus in educational titles, thus effectively "killing" CV as an adventure developer. Like it had a budget of 3.6 million dollars and it had to sell 500.000 copies at least to break even but obviously it never did RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Baron Blubba - 03-29-2026 I saw the video ad for Urban Runner on a demo disc and thought Wow, games have reached a whole new level of coolness. I was probably 8 at the time. Wanted it so bad, but my parents wouldn’t get it for me. Still haven’t played it. Anyhoo, I’m not in a position to post mant screenshots for the next few days, so try this: A member OF THIS VERY FORUM, in a fashion, walks into town when he KNOWS his wife won’t see him, surreptitiously slips into an alley, reaches into a barrel, grabs a dead fish, and cool as a cucumber he slides it into his trousers. Considers some other trash in the alley, decides against it, and continues on his way. Which forum member did this? Sort of. Well I don't know about "the member of the forum" thing, but you do get a dead fish in a barrel in "king's Quest 5" in an alley RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Estória - 03-29-2026 That's what I was thinking... KQ5. How many other games have you picking up a dead fish from a barrel ;-) That's what I was thinking... KQ5. How many other games have you picking up a dead fish from a barrel ;-) *edit... ah! Josh Mandel is a member of this forum! RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - srnickolas - 03-29-2026 (03-29-2026, 11:29 AM)Estória Wrote: That's what I was thinking... KQ5. RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Estória - 03-29-2026 Yeah he's King Graham. I have a huge soft spot in my heart for KQ5. It was the first VGA game I played, and I remember trying to buy it at Radio Shack and the clerk trying to talk me out of it, because "it requires a vga card." I started to walk away, but then went back because I was sure I had a vga card in my Wang 386 computer ;-). This was before the cd version with Josh Mandel's voice, but from the minute I got it home and installed I was hooked. To this day that's the most beautiful game I've ever played. Sure it has some stinker puzzles, but I love it so much. Josh Mandel really did a great job later on with the voice. He just kind of owns that role. RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Baron Blubba - 03-29-2026 Correct, Estoria! I love hearing KQ5 nostalgia stories. I think it’s the most nostalgic adventure game for a lot of us. |
