Paradoxically in this case, the art for the LSL 1 box -- and the LSL 2 box and the LSL 3 box -- was all done by none other than Mark Crowe, co-designer of Space Quest! (But I don't know how much say Mark had over the composition of these boxes, and how much would've been dictated to him by the Creative Services department.)

I've always just perceived it as red skin tones resulting from the heat of the jacuzzi.

Wait, wasn't Eve always black?

At least that was my gut reaction. So I spent 10 minutes on google dot gov to check, and here's what I've found.

I could not find a version of the boxart where Eve looked white. There were definitely different photos of the box with different colour gradings, but I couldn't find a white Eve version on a quick google.

(Not Google, but representative)

If you look directly at graphics rips, Eve does have the same skintone as every other woman in the original game. You're right. However, she is black in the VGA remake.

NSFW nipples in links... its just a Larry game u already know. just a reminder to not click LSL links at work...

I wonder if she was always meant to be black, and got deliberately darkened on the box to overcome the in-game colour limitations. That's just my speculation.

I'm not a big Larry fan as I've already mentioned, and people who know and enjoy more about the series than me probably have better info.

To me she looks more Latina or middle eastern. Or spray-tanned to hell and beyond…

I’m going with SQ3.

The Colonel’s Bequest. I do not want Freddy’s butt in my face!

I'm voting for The Colonel's Bequest.

Succinctly put, It's minimalism done right. It's amazing how a limited colour palette of red, blue, black and white manages to breathe such life into the image. The partially hidden daggers convey backstabbing as a core element, their position in the overall composition balances the top and bottom layers, excellently woven into both the red title and the brief shadow resulting from the lightening strike. Nuance of investigative work may have even been subtly added with the letter Q shaped like a magnifying glass, but that's probably a stretch from having played too many Nancy Drew games. There is literally only one thing worth being critical of how they drew this box art, which is the bewildering fact that the wheelchair is missing all of its spokes!

Freddy Pharkas has some good points, such as the detailed wooden carvings used for framing, and the comedic letter X clinging off-kilter on the store sign. Local residents clearly aren't happy with his store prices, there is a bullet hole in the top-right corner of the sign that is easily missed. The artwork shoots its self in the foot (pun intended) because of all the unlimited possibilities of hilarious scenes they could have picked instead, yet for some reason the designers seemed to think peak comedy is apparently scaring an innocent sheep to convey Freddy's stupidity.

I really don’t think these two should be competing, because these are IMHO two of the stronger covers, after a surprising amount of kinda weak ones. The Colonel’s Bequest is very stylish and I’m quite certain that it will win this round, so just to make it interesting I’m voting for Freddy Pharkas. It’s a very good classic painted cover, I think the imaginary «duel with sheep» is funny, and the framing is beautiful.
