Eh, it kind of annoys me anyway. I mean, it already says he's a pharmacist, so adding the "x" just seems too cute by half.

I reckon the 'X' was designed to have an elongated look, so it could appear similar to the cowboy boot spurs it was placed next to.

Police Quest 2. That's a great cover. Larry 3's box art is ugly as sin, as are most of the games in the series.
