Papetura was fun to play, Hexenwerk, and The Neverhood plays just fine in ScummVM.

Dear Santa,
Before I explain, how much do you know already?

Thanks, even just looking at the screenshots of clay models was a nice experience whilst compiling the list.

Yep, unfortunately it is the same situation as Discworld, with no re-release being available on digital platforms. Buying physical copies is always an option. However, in the meantime here is the Windows demo version of 'The Neverhood' on the ScummVM website:

Funny coincidence, if I had skipped doing research on MobyGames, and had instead chosen only games that I was fully aware of, that was the ONE game that I would have probably suggested. The game is made by Squinky, I was a fan of their games in the 2000s. I never played their clay-based games though.

My two favourite non-clay games that Squinky made are definitely these games, they were lots of fun to play back then:

Back on topic to clay animation games, did you know that Dominque Pamplemousse got a sequel?!

I have played some of Machinarium when it was a new-release game on the iPad. The distinctive visuals convinced me to purchase it. I got bored with it approximately 30% into the game, maybe I will return to it eventually.

Oh no, I didn't know there was a sequel to Dominique Pampelmousse. Thank you for pointing that out! This forum has already been so valuable in such a short amount of time regarding informations about game releases and such. Big Grin

Oh, I didn't know about that one either! I was a backer for the first Dominique Pampelmousse game. Another cool recommendation in this thread!

I agree about Trüberbrook, but I do remember it fondly. My brother had it - I think he picked it up because he knows I love adventure games. When I think of the game, I see us together on his couch, enjoying a game and each other's company.

Here's an adventure-adjacent title: Dark Train. It's a wordless narative puzzle (adventure) game.

It uses pen + paper cut-out animation, but also a fair bit of digital editing and post-production, so it's firmly in the hybrid category.

Yay! I'm happy I got to point out something new for both of you! It even flew under my radar as well, I only stumbled upon it by looking up Squinky's Itch store page.  Smile

I was going about my day and suddenly I thought of Milo and the Magpies!

From what I can gather it's mostly watercolor painting with some pencil drawing for certain animations, by artist Johan Scherft (with some cat animations assisted by Barthel Brussee).

I loved that game! It was sweet without being saccharine, really nice to look at, and fun tasks to complete.

Milo and the Magpies was a cute game, for sure!

I did see some indie developer sharing stuff from their dev process on Reddit, and they were making scenery from XPS foam and other things, 3D scanning it, and touching it up a bit before putting it into their game. I don't remember the name of the game or the dev, but it looked like a first person game set in a medieval or fantasy landscape. It looked pretty cool!

Fantasia, the JRPG by Hironobu Sakaguchi (known for his work on practically all Square classics, like all the Final Fantasys, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, etc.) released in 2021 did something similar, and used 3D scanned dioramas for its environments.

I played another game in the not-too-distant past where all of the scenery was made of model railroad stuff, for want of a better term. I can’t remember what, though, and I might be imagining the whole thing. I’ll post back if it comes to me.

I’m back already. It was Miniature Land Four Seasons on my iPad.

These look so beautiful! Wish I could play that on a PC. And it really makes me want to create a game in such a style. Some day ...
