Mmmh ... the composition of the King's Quest V artwork looks a bit like based on a standard recipe to me:
"Character standing in the foreground, destination in the background, and then some hazard" (but everything as flat layers, not very dynamic).
I think the composition could have been staged in a more interesting and more dramatic way.
Of course I respect the difficulties of creating such a painting with analogue tools.
The textured frame around the image confuses me, since it feels like the water of a swimming pool to me, and doesn't make sense in the overall context.
The composition reminds me very much of "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog", a painting I really adore. But for me it feels like a (worse) copy.
I may have voted for it if the painting had filled the whole cover instead of just that small window below the title text.
So, let's look at the Iceman-Cover: While I don't like several aspects in that, I like the layering of the title and character, and the contrast. Could imagine that the "Iceman" text has a shiny icy effect (and is more readable than we see in this shot?).
The red texts against the blue look ugly to me, but other than that, as it is, I vote for ICEMAN.
it is funny that in both covers we have a character in red in the center.

Iceman! That is magnificent.
King's Quest V
Dear Santa,
Before I explain, how much do you know already?
King's Quest V. Easy choice, from my perspective.
