I recently finished playing through Lake and was wondering what other people thought of it.
It's one of those not-quite-an-adventure adventure games, but I would still happily class it as one. Set in the 1980s, you drive around a gorgeous lakeside town in Oregon, USA delivering the mail. Along the way you get to know the locals, make friends, possibly start relationships, and make a few tricky decisions about how to spend your time.
It's a relaxing and kind of meditative experience, very cosy. The vibes and visuals almost reminded me of Life Is Strange, though the gameplay and story are very different. The more you play, the more you get used to the layout of the town and can start to find your way. The driving mechanics are very simple, you can't crash or cause accidents, but the mail van feels pretty good to manoeuvre.
One of the best parts is exploring the local video shop, which is full of fantastic spoof film titles and VHS cover art.
The whole thing lasts 6-7 hours. If I were to criticise it then honestly I would have liked a bit more to do. The town feels empty. The characters aren't the most memorable or interesting, but the dialogue was usually well written. I felt a bit railroaded by the choices towards the end and was actually not happy with how my game ended up. And personally I got sick to death of hearing the same country-folk songs played on the in-game radio!

Finished "Lake" a super chill game set in fictional Providence Oaks, Oregon.
You are a stressed out computer programmer who returns to her home town 22 years after she left and becomes a postal worker for 2 weeks.
Nothing really happens in the game, you dive around the lake and deliver the mail, meet the locals and either interact with them or not and while there are choices in the game non of them lead to anything dramatic.
I tried to spice up the town by doing Donuts in Farmer Franks "Tatter" field, drive on the left, park in the middle of the road etc to get the perfect Mailperson experience. I also became a "playa" by stringing along both the love interests canoodling with both of them in the hopes of stirring up some scandal, even the cat lady didn't comment on it.
It was a nice de-stressor from the longer games i've played recently, just drive around and listen to the two songs on the radio over and over for the 6 hours ish it took to complete.
It was pleasant enough but will probably never play again

Was my review when I played it 3 years ago.
Never played the Xmas DLC where you played as the father

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.
